Robins

Welcome to Robins class!
Hello! Welcome to Robins' Class Page.
Please always feel free to speak to me and ask any questions you have – I will try my best to answer them!
Each term a class letter and topic map will go out to keep you informed about what the children will be learning during the term.
Phonics and Reading
We follow the Phonics scheme ‘Unlocking Letters and Sounds’.
Unlocking letters and sounds also comes along with a reading scheme. We encourage all children to become more familiar and fluent with the books they are taking home to read. We want reading to be a celebration at Semley and so the children will bring home a book that they can decode, allowing them to read independently and feel empowered. The books are closely matched to the children’s phonics ability, so they should be able to read 95% of the words. Unlocking letters and sounds emphasises the importance of re-reading books to help children build their confidence and fluency. Therefore, we change books on a Monday and a Thursday to enable the children to enjoy the books at least 3 times before changing them.
PE
Robins have their PE lessons on a Friday.
Forest School
Robins take part in Forest School every Wednesday afternoon – even if it’s raining. During these sessions, the children learn a whole range of useful skills.
Helpful information
In the morning, I welcome your child into the classroom from 8:30 to 8:45.
At 8:45, I close the door in order to take the register. If the external classroom door is closed, please sign your child in to the main office. The children have a variety of activities that welcome them in the morning so the sooner they can be in school the longer they get to enjoy these.
At the end of the day, children should be collected from the classroom door at 3:20pm.
Children should have a labelled water bottle in school every day and any weather-appropriate clothing. Robins have a dedicated space to keep wellies in school so that we can make use of our outdoor areas no matter the weather. I cannot stress enough the importance of names in jumpers and any other belongings. It is impossible to reunite children with their belongings if they are not named. Having a bag of spares including underwear, trousers/skirt, socks/tights, a jumper and jogging bottoms (in the colder months) is recommended.
CASTLES
This term Robins are exploring castles in both our English writing and our history learning.
