What is sport premium?

The PE and sport premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils.

It is up to the school to choose how they use the money on improving their provision of PE. suggested uses are listed below:

  • Hire professional sports coaches to support staff when delivering skills lessons.
  • Additional and new sports clubs
  • Professional development for staff
  • Increasing sport competitions and opportunities
  • Buying specialist sports equipment.

  • Broaden the range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities including more competitive games.
  • Increase pupil participation in sports, games and activities during playtimes
  • Support teachers in the delivery of PE lessons and confidence with teaching new skills

Swimming data for children Year 6 2022-2023

Schools are now required to publish how many pupils within their year 6 cohort are meeting the national curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently and proficiently and perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations. (DfeE, 2017).

The data below relates to the Year 6 cohort for 2021-22.

Can confidently swim 25m unaided

Can confidently swim more than 25m unaided

Can use a range of strokes for 25m or more

Can perform a self-rescue (use skills taught in an emergency situation)
